Adult Protective Services

The Adult Protection Program investigates all reports of abuse, neglect and exploitation of vulnerable adults. A vulnerable adult means a person eighteen (18) years of age or older who is unable to protect himself from abuse, neglect, or exploitation due to physical or mental impairment which affects the person’s judgment or behavior to the extent that he lacks sufficient understanding or capacity to make or communicate or implement decisions regarding his person.

If substantiated, Adult Protection develops a Supportive Service Plan to address the allegations and the protection needs of the individual in the least restrictive setting.  For more information.....

Ombudsman

An ombudsman is an advocate who provides services to protect the health, safety, welfare, and rights of individuals over the age of 60 receiving long-term care services in nursing homes and assisted living facilities.  Ombudsmen receive, investigate, mediate and resolve complaints registered on behalf of individuals having problems with nursing homes, and assisted living homes.

In addition to resolving complaints, Ombudsmen provide education, information, and referrals regarding rights, benefits, and entitlements to individual families, community, and long-term care staff through personal contact, public presentations, and regular visits to nursing homes and residential care facilities.
