Alzheimer's Disease is a progressive, degenerative
disease that attacks the brain and results in impaired memory, thinking and
behavior. Memory loss does not necessarily lead to Alzheimer's, and
requires a doctor's diagnosis. If Alzheimer's is diagnosed early, your loved one
may still be able to participate in planning their future. They can
designate a particular person they wish to have as their guardian or Durable
Power of Attorney. This is a good way to help the person have some control
over their destiny. Legal advice should be sought as soon as possible, not
only for the protection of the person with Alzheimer's, but also for the
economic survival of the family.
Idaho Legal Aid gives free advice to seniors over
60 or their representatives.
